I am often asked about how I print my patterns and after the person asking finds out the "how" they inevitably ask why I do it that way.

Block carving and block printing have been around for centuries. It’s a beautiful method that takes skill and time  to get right. I love the entire process from carving the block to testing it, layering ink on it, and finding the exact right pressure and placement for each block we carve. I often tell my studio assistants that each block has its own personality, where it likes to be pushed, or how the look of the ink can change with each print, or how you need to peel one block up versus another block. Sometimes it's like they have their own minds and personalities and you have to be thoughtful to get the process down right.
