Following a Dream
The last few weeks have been spent gearing up for the launch of Tulusa's fall line — stay tuned — and I want to take a moment to thank Sarah Marcella, the phenomenal photographer who helped me shoot all the new products.
Sarah has a way of capturing beautiful things in their best light. She’s been the queen of Alexandria photography for the past six years and has photographed a large portion of our business community for our local edition of The Scout Guide and Alexandria Stylebook (which is how we first met in 2018). Following her dream to Expose, Empower, and Liberate women in their most exquisite forms, Sarah bought a 2007 Frieghtliner school bus and turned it into a gorgeous home and photo studio. Instead of shining her light on Alexandria and DC’s business community, her bus will be the backdrop for shooting boudoir photography from here to California.
Let me just say that this revamped school bus, aptly named “Shakti” (a Hindu goddess who embodies primordial cosmic energy) is a beauty with it’s pearly white paint and bronze stripes. During our last Tulusa lifestyle shoot for our fall and winter 2021 line, Sarah and I got to talking about some of my new prints and she decided she wanted a huge oyster mushroom on the roof. One thing led to another and, since Sarah and I are both soul sisters and major dreamers, we decided that Shakti should get her own roof top mural.
I’ve been printing on interior walls, powder rooms, yardage for upholstery, and basically wherever anyone would let me put my blocks for 6 years. I love it, I get it, I understand how the blocks have their own personalities and how I need to move them around a canvas. Painting on a 25 ft long roof — now, that felt like a new challenge — and I have to say that I loved every single minute of it. 95 degree days? Check. 12 hour days? Check. Big sweeping strokes with a paintbrush? You bet, loved that too. Getting out of my studio and hanging out a little closer to the clouds? Yes, totally good for my soul. I can’t wait for you to see it so click on the image below and let me know what you think in the comments!
If you’ve been thinking about spicing up a room in your house, studio, office, or other space, please get in touch – I’d love to work with you to bring your dreams to reality. You can learn more about the process here.
I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that Sarah will be missed on the streets of Del Ray and Old Town. We know that she is onto a wonderful, new adventure and hope that it will be filled with light, beauty, and a perfectly smooth ride.
Bookings for boudoir shoots on Shakti around the US will open in October. Follow the adventures of Sarah and @bigboudiebus on Instagram and find out when she’ll be near you.
